"WHERE IT ALL BEGAN"

             

Article in the Valley Morning Star regarding Pastor Gene Horton:

      
       Dr. Gene Horton, Karen G, Mrs. Horton, & David G

In 1970, David and Karen, with their two young sons, moved to Port Isabel, TX.   They began looking for a church that was on fire for the Lord.  They heard about Rio Hondo Baptist Church and decided to visit.  It didn't take long for them to realize that was where the Lord wanted them.  Pastor Horton's preaching stirred their hearts to reach out and witness for the Lord.  David went to Pastor Gene and asked him to show them how to witness.  A time was set and several others joined the session.  After thirty minutes of instruction, Pastor Gene closed his Bible and said, "Go tell them about Jesus".    Dr. Horton and Rio Hondo Baptist Church ordained David into the Gospel Ministry, and the course was set for today's ministry of International Gospel Outreach. 

Dr. and Mrs. Horton have been an encouragement to this ministry.  When he told David and Karen that he continues to pray for them everyday even after all of these years, it humbled them beyond words. 

Dave and Karen continue to thank Pastor Gene and Phynetta for their love, support, prayers and guidance through the years.  The day our Lord directed them to Rio Hondo Baptist Church will always be a touchstone in their lives.
